Food-product labels
DOP
Denominazione d'Origine Protetta ("PDO" - Protected Designation of Origin)
food products which are produced, processed and prepared in a given geographical area using recognised know-how
IGP
Indicazione Geografica Protetta ("PGI" - Protected Geographical Indication)
the geographical link must occur in at least one of the stages of production, processing and preparation. The product must have a good reputation
STG
Specialità Tradizionale Garantita ("TSG" - Traditional Specialty Guaranteed)
it highlights a traditional character, not the origin, and refers to the composition or means of production
Wine labels
DOC

Denominazione di Origine Controllata
applies to wines from delimited zones following prescribed standards. DOC wines rate the European Union designation "VQPRD" (for quality wines produced in determined zones)

DOCG
Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita
distinguished DOC wines of particolar esteem. DOCG wines rate the European Union designation "VQPRD" (for quality wines produced in determined zones)
IGT
Identificazione Geografica Tipica
refers to "typical" wines coming from specified geographical areas (larger than DOC ones)
